SASKATCHEWAN IS THE FIRST PROVINCE IN CANADA TO B E CARBON TAX FREE

Saskatchewan is the first province in Canada to remove the industrial carbon tax on electricity generation, delivering further savings for Saskatchewan families, businesses and industries.

Effective April 1, Saskatchewan will be the first province in Canada to be carbon tax free.

The Government of Saskatchewan will pause the industrial carbon tax rate under its Output-Based Performance Standards (OBPS) Program, a decision that will provide immediate financial relief to families, farms, businesses and industry. The carbon tax rate rider will be removed from all SaskPower bills. This will save hundreds of dollars a year for Saskatchewan families and businesses.

"Today, we are making Saskatchewan the first carbon tax free province in Canada," Premier Scott Moe said. "In taking the lead on the removal of this harmful tax, we hope all federal leaders will support our position and allow the provinces to regulate in this area without imposing the federal backstop."

PREMIER MOE'S RESPONSE TO US TARIFFS

Premier Moe's statement yesterday, April 2:

While we are still seeking confirmation on the details of today’s tariff announcement, it appears that no further tariffs were imposed on Canada today.

We remain concerned about the previously announced tariffs on Canadian steel and lumber, and will continue to engage with the US to have these tariffs removed.
For now, it appears that Canada’s approach of a coordinated, strong and measured response while continuing to engage with US government officials at all levels has been successful.

Saskatchewan will continue to make the case that free and fair trade benefits our citizens on both sides of the border as we work to increase our export markets in the US and throughout the world.

Our government will continue to make life more affordable for Saskatchewan people through income tax reductions and the complete elimination of the carbon tax.

MAYOR MUENCH PROCLAIMS APRIL 6, 2025 AS 2017-18 HUMBOLDT BRONCO DAY AND APRIL 7, 2025 AS GREEN SHIRT DAY

Mayor Muench proclaims April 6, 2025 as "2017-18 Humboldt Broncos Day" and April 7, 2025, as "Green Shirt Day" - City of Humboldt

April 6th marked the sixth anniversary of the tragic Humboldt Broncos bus accident.

Today and every day, the victims and survivors of that awful event are in the hearts of all of us in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.  we pause to remember the heartbreaking tragedy, and reflect and honour the memory of those lost.

ABOUT GREEN SHIRT DAY

On April 6, 2018, Canadians were heartbroken to hear the news of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash. Of the 29 passengers, sixteen lost their lives and thirteen will all bear physical and emotional scars for life.

On April 7, 2018, Humboldt Broncos defenceman Logan Boulet succumbed to his injuries. His parents, Bernadine and Toby Boulet offered to donate his organs so that six lives could live on. They did so because Logan told his parents he was registering as an organ donor and that he was inspired by his coach and mentor Ric Suggitt. Ric passed on June 27th, 2017 and was also an organ donor and saved 6 lives.

As news spread of the organ donation by this young hockey player, it is estimated that almost 150,000 people registered to become organ donors in the days and weeks that followed. To date, this is the largest number of Canadians registering to become organ donors in Canadian History due to one event – one person.

Green Shirt Day was created to honour, remember, and recognize all the victims and families of that fatal crash and to continue Logan’s legacy by inspiring Canadians to talk to their families and register as organ donors.

The Logan Boulet Effect is leaving a lasting impression on Canadians. Since 2018, hundreds of thousands have taken the important step of talking with their families about their wish to become an organ and tissue donor, and many are confirming that decision by registering their intent to donate through their provincial organ donor registration system. While in 2018 it was estimated that almost 150,000 Canadians registered in the weeks following the Humboldt crash, The “Logan Boulet Effect” continues to inspire Canadians. In 2019, the first ever Green Shirt Day contributed to another hundred thousand registering their decisions about donation.

Logan’s legacy reminds us how important it is for Canadians to talk with their family about their organ donation wishes. It’s suggested that for every person who registers their intent to donate, they speak with an average of 4 others about organ donation. That means that 100,000 new registrants equals approximately 400,000 conversations.

Keep the conversation going … it’s so important.

In Canada, almost 90% of Canadians say they support organ donation, but only 32% have actually registered their intent to donate. Though donation rates have improved over the last ten years, there is more to be done as approximately 250 Canadians die annually waiting for an organ transplant.

On April 7, 2023 WEAR GREEN to remember the Humboldt Broncos Bus Tragedy and in honour of the Logan Boulet Effect. Let’s continue to inspire one another because when we register as donors, and tell our family and friends, we are Together Strong.

Register · Tell Your Family · Be Inspired Green is the official colour of organ/tissue donation, symbolizing the hope organ donors provide to patients in need.

Once again this year, I will wear my green shirt while remembering the lives lost and lives that forever changed that tragic day.  May the memories remain in our hearts.
